Guidelines

Annual Stickers/Day Passes can be purchased during open hours and are required to use the Hardwick Recycling Center and the Swap Shed.   An Annual Sticker is $60 for Hardwick residents and $95 for non-residents. A Day Pass is $25. Cash or check payment to The Town of Hardwick accepted.

Fees apply for some hard-to-manage materials. Do not leave any items on the property when the center is closed. For more information email us at recycling [at] hardwick-ma.gov (recycling[at]hardwick-ma[dot]gov). Bulk waste collections are held bi-annually and fees are charged to cover the cost of hauling and processing.

Recycling Center Weather Closure Policy

This policy lays out the procedure and considerations for the closure of the Hardwick Recycling Center during adverse weather. Considerations include the safety of patrons, staff, and volunteers and the temperature dependent operation of the compactors.

In the event of inclement weather, the Recycling Coordinator will follow the Quabbin Regional school system in deciding to close the Recycling Center. When the schools are closed or delayed in opening, the Hardwick Recycling Center is closed. This consistency across departments allows for straightforward communication to the public and clear expectations.

Unlike the school, the Hardwick Recycling Center is open from 8 AM to noon on Saturdays. In situations with adverse weather, the Recycling Coordinator in consultation with the Department of Public Works will decide if the Hardwick Recycling Center should be closed. Factors including road conditions, extreme cold, and power outages influence the decision to close the Hardwick Recycling Center.

Announcements about the closure will be posted with signage at the Hardwick Recycling Center and online notifications that may include Facebook and the Hardwick Virtual Common.
