The CDC and FEMA have launched a joint campaign to educate individuals on the types of emergencies which we could face. They have also presented a variety of ways you can prepare yourself, your family, and your community.
This year’s campaign by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (Mass DPH) and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the) is called Ready Massachusetts. It is being presented in four parts as follows:
Ready Massachusetts asks individuals to do four key things to be prepared for emergencies:
- Be Informed – Know what emergencies may occur and stay informed
- Make A Plan – Plan for your family before an emergency
- Build a Kit – Assemble an emergency kit
- Get Involved – Volunteer opportunities in emergency preparedness and response
You can access the Mass DPH website at: www.mass.gov/eohhs/gov/departments/dph/
You can also access the MEMA website at: www.mass.gov/eopss/agencies/mema/
Residents are encouraged to visit both of these sites to read about the types of emergencies which we can face in this area. You can also learn about personal preparedness plans and strategies which can allow you to prepare for and survive these situations. The more you are prepared for an emergency situation the more likely you will survive with only minor discomfort.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates citizens like you about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact your area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
